A few weeks ago I noticed my children's python 'burrowing' into his substrate. It was like he was literally trying to 'stick his head in the sand' - he wasn't burying his body, only his head. And tonight I noticed my NT carpet python doing the exact same thing. He was pushing the substrate around and making a really good effort to bury his head. Then he must have noticed me watching and went to the other side of the enclosure to do the same thing again. Is this normal behaviour or should I be concerned? The childreni hasn't eaten lately but the carpet has been eating very well.

How are you heating their enclosures?!? if you are using floor heating i would think possible they were trying to get warm perhaps....

dont worry its just exploring. mine has done it for years, just make sure it cant wedge its head in anything. what size tank? give it some more room or obstacles to climb on.

Only true arboreal pythons imo are green tree pythons, all the other species frequent from terra firma to perches, I would not be to concerned!

They both have plenty of obstacles/furniture, I assure you :) The carpet is only a juvie so he's in a small 30 x 50 x 15cm ish enclosure. The childreni is an adult in a 30 x 30 x 45cm exo terra enclosure. I have no heating as I live in the NT and they're both native.

childrens is way too small in my opinion. 2-3 ft min.. i would think she looks awfully cramped

Not to alarm you at all but I noticed my Stimson diong this a few months back and found some advice on here that it was a normal thing - no worries. Then I checked her closely and found several mites on her- but like everyone says dont panic I'm sure she's only playing. That was just my bad luck.

Yeah the childreni has had mites before and I checked, he hasn't got any now. Yeah I've been meaning to get him a bigger enclosure. He's hardly ever outside of his hide though so I'll do it when I have some more money.
