Hi guys!!!

Long time no post for me, been out of the loop so to speak, moved to the country and things.

Now on to poor Stumpy,

He seems to have a mouth infection of some sort, his tong is like all white y yellow on the end and his saliva seems really thick and more of the whity stuff looks like to be around his gum's?

I only really noticed it today while i was feeding him that it was getting worse,

does anyone know what it might be? the vets up here have no idea and I am the only one here with pet lizards,

what can i give him to treat it and things??

thanks for any help!!!

Kerri

ohh he lives outside. so gets the sun and shade all day, if that helps.

It's mouth rot (necrotic stomatitis).

You need to clean away the white/yellowish cheesy crap with a swab(cotton tip). You can use either diluted listerine, warm salty water, or diluted betadine (to name a few). Its also a good idea to squirt the wound with one of these solutions to help flush away the crap.

After swabbing, apply an antibiotic ointment. Silverzine from the vets is a good one to use (but expensive). Just try not to poke around too much else it could make things worse, and dont spend longer in the mouth than is needed.

Also you may need to get it indoors and raise the temps a bit and provide day/night heat to help it fight the infection. If it doesn't get better within a week than you may need to see a vet and put it on a course of antibiotic injections.

Treatment should be daily until the infection clears.

Thanks for that serpentonge!

I thought i t might be something like that, I have had him for a few years with no problems and I have other lizards too, it was a surprise to see it!

I'll get on to it asap,

The white stuff is puss just to let you know. You need to pick it away say with tweezers (only the bits that will come away easy). I was also told to pick away the scab around the mouth as well.
