new carpet python

hi all we got a new coastal carpet we have had him about two weeks he is very jumpy when we touch him or try to hold him and his pupils get big is this normal how do i overcome this any help would be most appreciated ps he is six months old

my coastal is also jumpy when i touch the side of his body but i think he is slowly settling down had him for about a month and he is also 6 months old. and pupils looking big maybe because u got him out his hide or a dark spot and his eyes haent adjusted to the light ?
