Hi just thought I'd take the time to introduce us to you all. We have two Yellow Diamond Pythons, 1 is 4 years old the other is 2. We are hoping to get another 2 in the near future. The dream is green tree pythons, not quite sure what the affordable reality will be. I have included some pictures of both snakes and one of our enclosure. My partner Jason built the enclosure himself and is getting ready to undertake the next one. We hope to meet other Python lovers in our area. We have already learnt alot from the site but would love to be able to discuss some things with other snake owners.

Welcome to the site. I'm sure that you will find it to be very informative and sometimes very annoying at times  There seems to be a few members on here from Melbourne, it is always good to have members close by, see different snakes, setups etc. We would love to see more pics of your snakes to.

Wow cool looking enclosure!

Love diamonds more pics please!

Welcome Beth, where about in melb ur u..

Hi all ill add a welcome and a hello from ringwood so if anyone is in the area say hi, my problem is that I have / had a proserpine python she escaped from her enclosure I have hunted the house from top to bottom with no luck have left food out and no bite either , am trying now with a caged live mouse have hunted fridge motors heaters tvs vcrs anything i can think of that would be warm and no luck she doesnt come back to her cage i have left it on full bore heat 33 degrees (its hard on bulbs but worth it) i dont want to lose her 2 reasons she was expensive and 2 she is part of a zoology project and i dont want to lose 30% of my mark. missing or deceased counts as a 30% deduction.

any help would be greatly appriciated any ideas for traps etc have done the flour trick all over house not a track. so am starting to get worried , we dont think she got out its been to wet but im very new to this and am feeling my way all help greatfully recieved.

she is a beautiful snake (arent they all) and i really love her and want to get her back we are at week 2 escape and she was fed the night she got out (i have no idea why)
she was feeding once a week on xl mice is approx 4.5ft long

with thanks glen

Look at those cute snakies and that enclosure is awesome!!! I think Jason should come round to our place and build our next enclosure lol ;). What suburb are you in Beth? There are a few of us around in Melb so you're bound to find someone who lives not too far who can show you their setup and herps :D

Paramedic welcome to you too :). Sorry to hear about your snakey escaping :( .The caged live mouse you have, is it in a cage which is constructed so that the snake could get thru the bars with an empty belly but not back out again once it has a full belly? Hope you find her :(

How is the snake Ouzo? By the way that cage is massive. Do you plan on housing elephants in there. Nice looking job though. The heating of it must cost you a mint.

THANKS FOR THE WELCOME

Thanks everyone for saying Hi, Glen I do hope you find your snake, good luck and please keep us posted. Make sure you let all your neighbours aware so that if by chance she gets outside they call you instead of the snake catcher or worse.
We are in Hoppers Crossing and we do take orders for enclosures. The bigger the better for them so they can stretch out and be comfortable. It is heated with 5 ceramic heat lamps and the air is circulated by 2 computer fans. We also have a water bed heater under the rocks in the bottom which they love. We haven't noticed that much of a difference in the electricity bill from the smaller enclosure and look at them - aren't they worth it. I am in the process of making photo's of them smaller files so I can post more. I am sure you will all be very tired of them soon.

Welcome.

There are quite a few herpers close to you including OuZo, Soul weaver and for course the Herp Shop in Ardeer.

It has been a while but every now and then the Melbourne APS members get together for a gathering as somebody's house. We also tend to catch up at VHS meetings, most of which are held at Monash's Clayton campus.

Sorry to hear about the snake mate, 4.5 foot most people would think would be easy to find! If its cold there it may be cooling itself somewhere all coiled up in a some obscurely small place ya wouldnt think of looking!

Check the roof too, or the garage etc.

Goodluck

How is the snake Ouzo?

Hey M, he sorta seems better in some ways but worse in others :?. You remember those individual scales that were coming off here and there? Well now he looks furry ...so many of them are peeling off everywhere that they're all poking out sideways and it makes him look fuzzy and not smooth like he should be. But if that's malnutrition like you said then I guess it's sorta to be expected. I also feel like he's lost a bit of weight near his tail end but Luke doesn't really think he has so we're not sure who's right and who's wrong lol. The good things are that he's cruising around HEAPS more, he's on the move all the time, and he's got a lot more spunk in him lol. He usually gives me a little bit of trouble but is generally pretty easy to tube but last time (Monday night) he struck at the hook as Luke got him out of the cage, then he gave me a bloody good fight when I tubed him and when I put him back in his cage he went into his hide and when I was looking thru the glass at him he flew out and struck at me twice :D

So he generally looks like he's feeling a bit better cos he's not just sitting in one spot not moving anymore but I find it hard to tell. Since we first went to your place we weren't very strict at doing it every 3 days  but now we're making sure we don't miss any so that we know we've done the best possible job so if it's dehydration we should knock it on the head (or whatever the saying is lol )

Sorry to hijack ya thread Beth and sorry for the essay M ;)

Welcome Beth & Paramedic01. I'm in Melbourne too, but on the other side. Love the names of the Diamonds by the way.

Geez, thanks very much, You forgot me and Afrofishman. And I am sure their are a few others ;) :)

By the way, welcome to the site :)

APS and VHS meetings

Thanks herptrader, we have been patiently waiting for an APS meeting and are looking forward to it. How do we hear about VHS meetings, do we have to be members and is there more that you could tell us about these meetings. Also I realise we are only new, but we do have quiet a good entertainment area outside and undercover if you were looking for a host for the next APS meeting. It could be a good chance for us to meet everyone.

We have a winner. You should never have openly said that on this forum. Your house will now be swamped by members of this site, now and forever :) :)

Hi Beth, love that enclosure, and dig the names too.
Why does everyone live in Melbourne?
Paramedic...good luck finding your snake.
