the lost lady returns (ok it was three months but hey)

:D :D Life is good Lady Penelope the proserpine python lost on and around the 15th july just as i was getting into herps and snake was found at 3.30am this morning ? what a wakeup call LOL had allmost given her up for dead - one very happy owner here, had 2 snake catchers out to the house and no result had given up on her allmost completely but she turned up knocking over a tub of plastic dohickes after getting herself wrapped into a wire cd holder, she was cold very cold, so dusted off the enclosure , turned on the lights and put her back in , she went straight for the water dish, she drank like i had not seen her drink before (dehydrated??) she wouldnot take a mouse but she was cold , shes thinner but looks in good condition for being away for three months so im going to try to feed her in the next few days any ideas or any suggestions, she has changed habits a bit, she seems to like hiding under her newspaper rather than her hide allthough that could be because she was so cold and the newspaper is directly under the lamps, but overall i am happy she also has some scales that seem to be peeling off , (shedding )perhaps? i dont know still to new at this and didnt buy a new one as i was to upset over loss of penelopy, but thatnks to everyone who messaged me saying dont worry they do come back or you find them it can be a long drawn out process but there are happy endings, the only thing i can say is never give up.

i am from broady. melb rocks goooooooooooooooooooo melb lol

:D oh that is wonderful paramedic01!!!
Thanx for letting us know.

:D well penelopy is back but not feeding, tried a mouse at 4am this am and no go she spent all the rest of night wrapped around her day light basking next to the night heat lamps so this morning at 9 i tried another mouse (running out of dead mice may have to try a live one) but shes not eating she is exploring all over her cage when i open it (is she wanting to escape? again. captivity not appealing???)) however she has scales that when she is curled appear to be folded (weight loss maybe?) bit like skin left over after a lyposuction, so malnurished possibly, am i trying to give her a meal thats too big or too soon after she has been so cold for so long, should i be using smaller or live food or something else if she doesnt feed in a day or so i might have to look at forcing? and i have no idea so any help from anyone in the area would be good Thanks

paramedic01, ringwood victoria
give me a call 0412345167. (Glen)

shes found and now i need more help than ever sigh

Hey dude, I'd probably give her a couple of days to settle back in before trying to feed her again. She's probly just adapting back to the heated enclosure after spending the COLD winter hiding away. A couple of things to look out for though, check to see if she is wheezing when she is breathing. After a long stint in the cold snakes can be a bit susceptable to respiratory infections. Another thing with the skin, if you just slightly pinch it and it doesn't spring back to her body, and stays in a fold for a little while, it's a good sign that she is dehydrated. Just make sure she has plenty of access to water.

If all these things seem to be in order, I wouldn't worry too much. Just keep the heat up to her and she'll come around pretty soon. The main thing is keep an eye on her and just let her settle back in.

Cheers Rossco.

Just read this whole thread, and i'm so happy for you, paramedic! Give her time. She's only been 'home' a day.
The relief you must have felt upon finding her!!
P.S. I'm in Ringwood too!

Snake

Not my Diamond Python but my Shingleback (indoor enclosure) escaped my watchful eye. She was on the window ledge (ground level ledge) watching out the window, so I thought she was a sleep, I went to the kitchen for a cup of tea and when I came back she was missing. I looked everywhere, under the lounges in the computer room under the bean bags and I couldn't find her. I waited until my husband got home so he could have a look (incase my eyes were glued on) and he couldn't find her either. I then remembered that the under side of my Bearded Dragons enclosure was hollow, so we dragged the 4ft enclosure forward and there she was curled up sleeping. Needless to say when we thought we were rescuing her sge hissed at us very annoyed for being found in her new hiding spot. She is only allowed out for short periods of time.
I glad you found your snake it is very stressful, but there are alot of people on this site that have had escapees so they have a lot of hiding spot tactics for you to follow in case.

Welcome both of you to the site, everyone is always friendly (well most of the time)!

Well done paramedic - that's fantastic news about finding Penelope after all that time. How's she settling in to her home again. It's amazing she was missing for so long. I bet she could write some interesting tales about her adventure.

I also live in Ringwood. If any of the other Ringwoodites or folks close to here would like to PM me we'll see if we can arrange some kind of get together or something.

All the best to all.

we could have a ringwood metting at eastlands at the coffee place on second floor, we couldnt bring our charges LOL but photos etc, and its an open meeting place with lots of people we could have a dinner or something and make it a regular event if it pans out and of course all herpers invited. we could have special intrest nights , wow am i going overboard or what, or we could just say hello, still no feeding day 2 but shes well hydrated now gave her fresh water when she was found and she spent 5 minutes drinking and exploring, she spent whole night warming up attached wrapped around her day light as close to her heat lamps as possible I have given her a hot and a warm hide now and she is under the hot hide i havent seen her out yet but shes ok have to resist checking on her every hour, did a quick 2 minute handling session and she was good no strikes or anything very placid animal only thing is scales seem to be missing of head in a circular pattern ? is she about to shed? i havent seen one yet so am unsure . do i rip out the walls to try and find one or do i wait.?? any idea

glen ringwood and i think meeting in ringwood a fantastic idea :D

if it is a day and time I am available, I'd be happy to meet with you for a coffee @ Eastlands too.... Let me know when you guys and/ or gals want to get together.

Cheers, Judy

Hey paramedic, glad to hear you got her back!!! One thing though, does the below quote mean that she's actually wrapped around a heat globe??? If so I'd get a globe cover so she doesn't get burnt! Sorry if I'm misunderstanding you though lol ;)

she spent whole night warming up attached wrapped around her day light
