Hey Indicus - cheers, Im glad you like the bluey - attitude? He has heaps! lol
Something real 'dinosaur' about them, You almost feel like you are his dinner.

This is probably a really stupid question but here goes. Does anyone here breed BHPs on a regular basis? and if so whats the chance of getting one for the price of a carpet? I know that they have small clutches compared to carpets, but the prices still seem a bit steep, IMO. You can all laugh now if you like.

There is NOOOOOO chance of getting one at a coastal price, they are so better looking (IMO) and much less available, the cheapest I have seen ever is $800.. for a male hatchling. But I reckon they are worth it. And yes low clutch sizes contribute to the price.

I have a question in relation to the blackheads and there is probably no better place to ask it.

Do the Blackhead hatchies readily take rats? I know they are meant to be soley reptile eaters in the wild, but do they automatically start eating these items when offered or do you have to scent the rats/ mice with skinks first to wean them onto them???

Fantastic photos everyone!! Very enjoyable! :D

mooseoose,

We all ways get them started on thawed pinky rats or weaner mice here. Some of the hatchling are quite hard to get started with the BHP but they are quite easy to assist feed, this is done by placing the head of the pinky rat/weaner mouse in there mount then placing back in contanior, then if all goes to plan they take it all the way down them selfs. after doing this a couple of times they get the taste for them and away they go by them selfs.

When purchasing a BHP hatchling from a breeder or dealer you should never have to do this as they should be up and feeding very well by them selfs, once they are feeding there is no stoping these pythons they will eat just about every time you offer food, they are bloodly pigs.

hope this helps you a bit mooseoose.

Regards Tim
