wow that tank realy is a tank deano

I love pitt bulls so dont get me wrong by the next comment but arnt the illegal in australia or do you need a certain liscence for them. I just know you dont want to lose them because the rspca's pollicy with pit buls is to put them down straig away.

poor bull terrior too looks like its in a tremendous amount of pain im not sure if putting it down is the right answer maybe puting it under and removing them while he is asleep.

What's wrong with pit bulls? Why is the law clamping down on them? In NSW recently, there were 3 attacks by pit bulls on people in 4 days. All owners of current pit bulls in NSW have to have their pit bulls desexed and......

From:http://www.abc.net.au/pm/content/2005/s1359018.htm

"Under the new, New South Wales legislation it'll be an offence to breed, sell, give away or acquire pit bull terriers and other similar fighting dogs."

There is truth in the fact that it's bad owners, not bad animals but there is no doubt that some breeds attack people more than others.

I think the cross breeding has something to do with it, as the problem also lies with German Shepard crosses.

I don't doubt that shewhomustbeobeyed payed $7000 for a pure pit bull, if I really wanted one of these dogs (which I would never do, i have kids) I would pay as much as I needed to make sure the bloodlines were pure, and free from aggression. They have spent longer time trying to perfect the impurities in pit bulls than any other breed of dog. Also, since the ban in NSW and some parts of QLD, the prices of them have sky rocketed.

Also, found this bit of information:
"The American pit bull terrier and American Staffordshire terrier, both registered in America, were essentially the same breed, and American pit bull terrier owners in Australia often registered them as American Staffordshire terriers."

Is this the case?

Nice deano, beatiful dogs mate.

I only have 2 APBT now, used to breed them.

Great dogs.

She who must be obeyed, i would like to see those Jeep lines as most of my lines were Jeep.

My pups were $5000 minimum and there was a waiting list.

No there not illegal, we got the pups chipped and we asked one of the vet ladies if it was ok to put it down as a pit bull but she suggested to put it down as a staffy with all the roomers she heard that the pit-bull is illegal so we called the council and they said that there is no problem with putting it down as a pit-bull and that there not illegal, and there is heaps of people still breeding them, its just roomers.
And I have to agree with you Nome its bad owners not the pit-bull, pit-bulls are very placid like the staffy, very energetic and always want to play that?s why I got two because I don?t get home till late to play with them so they have each other. I was attacked by a German Shepard when I was younger and my mate was attacked by a rotty so it?s not just the pit-bull.

Gee... not the brightest of dogs

Well - didn't know that porcupines could shoot them out - I just assumed that they came out once stuck in something else - so it looks like i'm the not so bright one...

IMO the owners of these animals are alot to blame - wether it be because of mis-treatment or failure to secure the animal properly.

On the weekend I was at the park with my two kids, my nephew and a mates kid. The owner of the dog did not have it secured, and it ran in front of a car and was hit. This was not the dogs fault - nor the person who hit it. BUT we all had to stand around for several minutes and listen to this poor little dog yelp and yelp until someone was able to catch it and take it away. IMO not somthing anyone (especially animal lovers such as my kids and I ) should have to put up with.

If you own an animal it is your responsiblity to look after it and keep it safe. Alowing it to wonder around the streets is not doing the animal any favours - especially if it ends up biting somone and then has to be put down.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Ouch

I think the mentality of most pitbull owners has more to do with dangerous ones than instinct, although instinct plays a part. Dogs are bred for diff reasons (atleast originally) you dont trust a terrier with small fluffy animals, they were bred to hunt them. I woudnt trust a pitbull full stop but thats just me.
Yes they are just a dog like any other, but most pitbull owners are jerks (no offence) the mistreat and badly train them to deliberatly make them more agro, for gaurd dogs, illegal fights etc, then they escape and maul a small child and atleast in some cases are rightly destroyed.
Its a shame more moron dog owners arnt shot imo.
Ive seen and worked with all kinds of dogs including pitbulls, most super agro dogs were deliberatly made that way through abuse.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Ouch

i agree any dog can be a vicous killer. its all in the way they are treated. i myself have been bitten by a german shepard. i was like 10 and i remember having to leave my dad to walk down the trail a bit to get my net(i had been after trout that lived in a small creek) on my way back i had to walk buy a youngish guy with a german sheppard. as i walked by the german sheppard bit my ass. i went crying to my dad the dude ran off. i didn't get hurt badly just some teeth marks.

i think its the pitbullls reputation which makes scum want them(i am not calling anybody on this forum scum just the idiots that raise agro pitbulls and are irresposible with them)

$7000 for a dog !!!!!
Just curious but how can you have an American Staffordshire Terrier ? They are from Staffordshire surely ?
A Blackheaded python in America can't become an American BHP.

and that email disturbed me when i got it,
the problem is bully's just can't help themselves.

Yes I think you are right, they remind me of Homer Simpson.

My vet told me that Maltese terriers were the most reported for biting. Lucky those crazy little rags aren't 25kg and have lock jaws! hehe

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Ouch

The history of staffies and pitbulls. By the way would love to see photos!!!

In the nineteenth century in the English region of Staffordshire, crossing among the Bulldog and various terriers developed the muscular, active, combative Staffordshire Bullterrier. Brought to the United States, the breed was preferred by American breeders who increased its weight and gave it a more powerful head. Now recognized as a separate breed, the American Staffordshire is larger and heavier than his British cousin, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. After dog fighting was banned in the United States in 1900, two strains of these dogs were developed, a show strain and a fighting dog strain. The show strain was labeled the American Staffordshire, while the fighting dog strain was labeled the American Pit Bull Terrier. The two are now being recognized as separate breeds. Today the American Pit Bull Terrier is being bred with the same gentle qualities as the American Staffordshire Terrier. They both make great pets with the right kind of owner.
