Hi everyone. Numerous people have told their is no point of herptivite - multivitamin powder and to just stick with calcium powder. What is the point of herptivite any benefits to reptiles?

My lizards and turtles get a mix of about 2 thirds Rep-Cal Calcium and 1 third Rep-Cal Herp-t-vite and have done for many years. I have no doubt that the calcium is vital but the Herp-t-vite plugs any deficiencies they may have in their diet. Such deficiencies are always a problem in the diets of captive animals.

Looking at your avitar I have my other eye on my spiny tailed geckos chasing freshly dusted crickets in my Calcium and Herp-t-vite mix. They are quite old these days and it is good to see them so active.

The spiny tails enclosure sits on the desk beside my computer at home.

My rough knob tails and ackies have never had herptivite, only the calcium and they are healthy as can be. I think it doesnt hurt to give it to them but also dont think they need it at all..

Thanks everyone. I will still use herptivite with calcium powder

I have both the vitamins and calcium powders for my frogs, and was also wondering about this on and off if it would have any purpose to my bredli python once in a while?

Can someone elaborate on the use of these supplements with pythons?

No point on most pythons fed on whole animals (eg thawed rodents) as they tend to get the calcium from the bones and the balance of other vitamins and minerals from the gut content.

One day they will get to the bottom of DPS and I wonder if calcium metabolisation may have a role to play here.
