I'm taking one of my skinks to the vet tomorrow and I'd like to get a faecal test done.
In case he doesn't poo in the morning I've collected one he did just now.

Dumb question, but is it best to store it at room temperature, in the fridge, or freeze it till tomorrow morning?

Thanks!
Lisa

Pretty sure that the feacal matter has to be fresh

Thanks for your quick response! Unfortunately he doesn't poo on queue so I'll be taking this one if he doesn't go in the morning.

If the vet can't do anything with it, so be it. I'd like to keep it as fresh as possible in case he can do something with it, but I'm not sure if it's best stored at room temp, fridged or frozen.

It's currently in an airtight container with gladwrap over the top and is in the fridge.

Is a pity it's not one of my other reps .... stick him in the car and he goes everytime !
His annual checkup is accompanied with a roll or paper towel, baby wipes ...... and a smell that clears the waiting room of the vet every time

my vet squirts some fluid up their vents and gets a sample that way, im sure a complete poo would be better tho, so wrap it up well so it doesnt dry out and pop it in the frigde so ur vet has a choice.
i think i read somewhere 24 hours old or so was ok.

Great! Thanks for advice! If it's no good it's no good, but I'll take it anyway.

OK ... I'm off to wrap 'n pack a poo
