well excuse my ignorance. i suppose you knew it all before getting your first reptile
i've only had her 2 and a bit months and I'm in the middle of moving house and I haven't got my books on hand. Yes, I do own that book.
Next time I'll be sure to get them couriered over to me and read them before I ask a question here.
Yes I read keeping and breeding Australian pythons several times. I also had read Barker and Barkers pythons of the world volume one numerous times and done heaps off Internet research about keeping pythons. Plus various other books.
Negligence is no excuse in a court of law. Nor is it acceptable with keeping animals IMHO. For me I like to be informed before hand to give my animals the best homes possible. We all learn a lot once we get our first animals. However the basics should already be covered before hand.
Its not like your animals were at risk or anything. I was just surprised that you didn't know.
Im not a fan of the acquire first and ask questions later type keeper. I have never been and will never be in favor of such husbandry practices. But I accept that it is a method favoured by many.
Really I'd hope new keepers understand slough cycle, poop and urates, temperature gradients, food size, what is required for digestion and an understanding of what happens if they are too warm or too cold while digesting, why replacing water regularly is important, what substrates are acceptable, why snakes need appropriate sized hides, various heating methods and the pro's and cons of each, the basic enclosure requirements for the species being kept, etc etc.
