How would I go about posting reptiles via express(overnight) to a place only 2 hours drive from me? I was thinking put them in a container.etc with the usual stuff but my main concern is that express post can sometimes take 2 days... They would need heating, which I cant give them. I was posted Frogs from Moama, but never reptiles. Should I post them or not?

You would be risking losing the animals, the mail system is very rough as far as handling etc.
Express post is only valid from capital city to capital city outside of these areas it is normal delivery timing.
Try a courier service, that way they should arrive same day as sent

I haven't done this but you can get thoses little heat packages with the jell inside I have seen on snakebytes that's what they do

Thanks Bee, can anyone recommend a good courier service which would run to the Blue Mts from South of Sydney.

Thanks Tassie, they would be handy.

I dont think heating is an issue, most snakes can go for more then 2 days without heating, over heating imo would be your main concern

Doesn't Lynne say not to use couriers as they can neglect the animals and leave them in the sun she told me that they once sent 50 gtf's and they were left in the sun and all died, she never used a courier again. I have received frogs from express post. Your best bet would be to use a "Pet Transport" courier.

Sorry guys, Im posting Pygmy Beardeds not snakes.

Hmm, I didnt hear that, thats a worry.

Surely they can buy them local. Its not as though Pygmy Beardies are hard to come by. Local pruchasers get local support., or if they really care a 2 hour drive is not the end of the world.

isnt it illageal to post any animal other then i believe bees and some other insects e.g. crickets and roaches

Isn't it illegal to use the postal service to move live animals?

beat me to it heli

Australia Post does not except live animals of any type to be freighted through their mailing service, why don't you contact Australia Post and see what they have to say.

And it is illegal to post live animals through the mail service such as Australia Post.

l myself would not use any couriers to transport live animals the risk of them dieing is to high, you can try a courier such has Dogtainers who do transport all types of live animals all over Australia but they are not cheap to use.

Depends on each states regulations. In SA frogs can be posted as they aren't on a permit. When applying for an import/export permit you have to mention the form of transport I wrote AUS post and it was accepted and the frogs will be express posted to me. Although I don't even need a permit I just figured I would get one whilst I was there.

it wont just be qld, i suggest you check Aus post. just because ppl do it doesnt mean its not illegal. or everyone would post beardies for 10 bucks rather then drive 2 hrs to the airport have a specific container and then pay 55 bucks

It was accepted by Fauna SA...... as a method of transport for frogs. I have no idea if they would okay it for beardies.

Has nothing to do with state regulations - it is illegal to post live animals other than insects via Australia Post, which has a uniform national policy.

Strange that it is accepted by a wildlife authority then.........
