Hi all as you have seen there has been discussion over the topic of feeding rabbits to your snakes, it does have its advantages as mentioned ie. low fat content, high calcium and vitamin content, and better nutritional value for your snakes.

I am at the moment talking with a rabbit supplier to the hospitality industry about the possability of rabbit sausages.

They will come in various sizes from chipoletta for hatchies to jumbo for the larger snakes.

I have tried the product on all of my snakes and not one of them had a problem taking them as a feed (even my troubled feeder took it first time)

What i am after is a level of interest in this product so that we can get production into swing, so if you are interested or have any thoughts please let me know.

We have the ability to be up and running in the next couple of weeks if the ineterst is there.

Thanks
Matt

how would the price compare to mice or rats? i imagine that if they are farely cheap and also yeild the higher nutritional value that you speak of, they would become very popular amongst herpers.

much cheaper then rats and mice, no exact price yet but would imagine that it would be a Kg price and would be comparable with other sausage prices on the market

Just make sure preservatives are not used in the sausages like they do with beef/chicken etc.

already looked into that it is a free range farmed product and no preservatives are used

I would be totally interested and so would alot of people I would say if they were cheap. I think the most important thing is that they contain no additives at all, and something else that might be important is that they contain the entire rabbit. It is important that the snake will still get the vitamins and minerals from liver, kidney, and the other internal organs as well as a certain amount of fat.
Basically if you can make a them out of whole rabbits (or as close to) so that there is little difference between a real rabbit and your product, they should take off, well there is no logical reason why they wouldnt. If they were cheap people would be crazy not to try them.
Infact there are a few zoo's that alreay do a similar thing to feed King Cobras, and has been working for years.

Hix yes they can be frozen and thawed at a later date, They are actually supplied frozen in a vaccumme sealed bag there are no preservative additives, colours or dyes they are 100% natural.

Craig they contain the whole rabbit, bones, lungs, liver, heart, kidneys the lot, and the skins are the natural skins not the synthetic type.

I will have about 16kg by the end of this week, prices and pictures of the product will be posted on my site as soon as i have all of the info from my supplier

just broke a piece off and gave it to the beardies...... it didnt last long thats for sure

not a problem what you do is when you defrost them you do it in hot water the same as a mours or rat (blanching) this slightly cooks the sausage it retains the heat simulating body temp and makes the sausage firm.

None of the ones that i fed to my snakes busted not even my 7ft coastal so i dont think it will be a problem

A manufacturer of these actually told me to thaw them naturally and not in hot water. I did this and could not get one of my snakes to take a sausage.

worked in the hot water africa.... may have something to do with the increased temp simulating the body temp.

BTW i have a whole new pricing on those click clack containers for ya and will have plenty in toock by the end of the week sizes ordered are

322 x 221 x 112
209 x 144 x 105
259 x 175 x 95

They are the same as the ones you have the jungles in with the 4 metal clips

i have tried the sausages as well with diamonds coastals childrens and also bhp's and they were great, a few fell apart but that was my fault as i left them there for to long. the best thing was my olives loved them which makes it heaps easier as only 1 used to eat rabbits now both do. the sausage contains everything a rabbit has including the hair and bones along with all insides and whatever else.

ok you got me ,so will you be shipping them all over the state?

or dose anyone know where to get them in QLD

Hi Stock, yep you are probably bang on about the temperature of your sausage:)

Can you pm me the price of those click clacks please? I think it is the largest size you listed. I use the 5.7 litre model, I am at work but off the top of my head I think it is model number 9350?
Thanks mate,
Africaclickclackhunter.

yes i will be shipping them australia wide they will come frozen in a vacumme sealed bag in an insulated esky, shipment choice is up to the buyer, either air or aussiepost express.

Great stuff stockeh.....i've seen the snake sausages advertised in the US REPTILES mag and have often wondered if we had anything similar here.

I think they would be better than buying or breeding your own mice and rats anyday...people won't freak out either when they open the freezer.

What sizes will you have?

sizes can pretty much be made to demand but standard sizes will be based on rat/mice sizes from pinkies up to about 200-300grams.

It sounds like an interesting idea. They would make a great diet variation although I don't think I would feed a snake solely on them.
Let me know when you are up an running, I would definitely like to try them on my snakes.
