nice clean setup, if your in QLD, i would say you wont have problems with night temps unless your high up in the mountains

thanks mate didnt think so, but then i came home last week to find one of the mothers killed 12 of her young ,they were nearly weaned she was housed only with the other mum thought temp was the only real reason other than just a mean streak ,i live in hinterland so it does get cold alright cheers :)

im getting down to about 5C in my garage at night. their still breeding, but have been alittle slow and numbers are down abit

I will put min max thermo in tonight and see what im getting let yawl no results tommorow would like to work out if the cold could bring down breeding production and if so would it be cost effective to heat them against the slowing down of there breeding

the cold is the reason for the slowing of breeding. my rats have dropped by about half and the mice have gone from about 500 a month to about 100 a month. ive heated my garage and it increased the numbers bred, but i dont think its cost effective to heat

cheers mate i cant emagine heating would be worth it ,thats whats great about this forum ask a question and you will get an answer i spoke to a mate and he thinks the killing was probably due to a mean streak so mabe just one off those things ,any way temps last night in the shed were still in the high 15 so not too cold yet

wish i had 15C here. another reason they kill their young is lack of protein. try increasing the amount of protein that their getting in their feed. but they normally eat their young if its protein related

I did think adding protein would make them even more hungry for the flesh so had tryed to keep it low i will try a little dog food mixed in thanks for the suggestion anyway they get a good amount of veg so a little more protein couldnt hurt is there any other way of getting a more balanced diet what do you feed?;);)

i havent been suplying any heat to mine, they are in the shed i think it retains a bit of heat over night from daylight sun but not a great deal i dont think
temps are getting as low as 3 here at night, and around the mid 20's during hte day
are doing fine breeding well
(does that hosing keep your waterbottles full?)
