When i went to feed some of my snakes tonight ,an intereting thing happened !
When i tried to pick the rat up out of the hot water its ear skin came off then i tried to pull him up from the tail all its tail skin came off !

Although Amusing at the time I was wondering if this was because the water may have been to hot ?

lol, yeah i hate when those things happen. i hate when the gut just busts open and the smelll hits u. the ear i have found comes off a bit, though i havn't had the tail yet.

lol the only time i used hot water i got a gut buster and when i picked up the pinkie mouse by the tail it the mosue lost its tail and went down the garbage disposal fun stuff

how does everyone else defrost pinkie mice? cup of warm water for a few minutes? how warm/cool to avoid cooking something so small?

thanks Jimmy, but if ya just leave it on the sink, do ya use warm water after to warm it thru before ya feed it to whatever?

i leave all mice /rats on top of the enclosure to defrost, take them out first thing in the morning on feed day and feed after lunch

Cold, warm water for a while, then blitz em in hot waterright before the feed ;)

I've had rat tails come off heaps! The worst bit is how hard it is to get a grip on the slippery bone/flesh under the skin. I say heaps, but maybe one in a couple dozen, they're just memorable lol... I think that the hot water makes it happen easier, though it can still happen with out.
Never has one of my snakes busted rat guts.. only time i've ever seen it was when one of hugs' waters sliced one open. eeww...

Hot water straight from the hot water tap. For larger rats they get 2-4 doses of fresh hot hot water.
I've never had one bust or tail skin some off or an ear come off.
I'd have to wonder about the quality of the frozen rats if it happened to me.

Yep big tub of hot tap water....chuck them in....feed them off when thawed.

I've had mice burst. I think it happened those times when I tried to thaw them out too quickly. Only a few times, though, perhaps not statistically significant enough to make a call.

I just let them thaw on the kitchen bench over the day, then bung 'em in the microwave for 3 seconds, twice, and then feed. But I find my snakes will take them if I leave out the microwave bit.

:p

Hix

i douse in hot (tap) right before the feed. sometimes i dont dry it either, figure a bit of extra moisture doesn't go astray :)
