So this is what...the 3rd time we have had this convo since i joined this site. i think someone even did a Poll on it, though guys the admin don't wish to change things so maybe we should stop nagging.

 Im sorry you feel that way lib, but i for one never saw the other 2 conversations you are referring to and therefore think i should be left out of the "nagging"....

It could still work, if a person is having problems with PM they can just say so and provide alternate means of contact, most do anyway. It doesn't really bother me either way if this was done, I was thinking more of the people who start a forsale thread and then watch it go down hill. Sure the mods can get in and clean it up but that is just more work for them.

I am cleaning for sale forum my self. This forum is my responsibility and there is lot of post to delete each day.
System alow me to delete posts one by one only. That is why sometimes I prefere to split them to save time.

People get booked for speeding all the time. Maybe they should raise the speed limit so people arent breaking the law anymore....or do you think people would still break the new speed limit?

just a thought...
This is the complete opposite to what I am talking about, giving a speeding driver faster speeds solves nothing, taking away their car, now this solves everything, I am talking about making things better/easier for the people doing the right thing, not catering to those doing the wrong thing.

clicking on that submit button
Take the button away and they can do nothing, this is not catering to them, it is taking from them. If I was selling something I would rather get 10 questions the same via pm/email/phone rather than 10 useless replies in my forsale thread!!

Just another thought... :)

A good example today. Some joker has put up an ad with no phone number and no location. To me, this instantly disqualifies them as someone I would buy a snake from.
As a seller, I would get sick of anwering the same question in PM. I would rather answer on the advert. I reckon it would be more frustrating constantly getting pm's from tyre-kickers. You see them all the time on the for sale forum and it's not hard to spot the ppl that are just going to waste your time.

But perhaps the message is getting through. There was hardly any chit-chat in the for sale ads today. After all there are only 5 main offenders ( 4 of which having posted on this thread....funny that)

Yeah i think it should be like a form to fill out, then a comments section at the bottom... that way all the relevant info is there as we dont have to waste the first 4 pages getting it....
Cats should include,
What you are selling, what sort of renumeration or swap you would accept, location, contact details and preference, ie on or offsite contact, when the item for sale will be available, if you are willing to frieght, delivery and pickup options, all that sort of stuff....
But im not the wd who has to write it up, but it would only take me 10 mins to throw a script together.....
This form idea would work it's magic and such an ad could never be placed. :)

Well I have to agree with that to a degree, only there is a solution, the seller can just post the questions they are asked in pm/email/phone with the answer to their forsale thread (even though a well thought out form would stop more than 75% of questions asked anyway), I mean its a bit of extra work for the seller, but hey, they want to sell without getting the same questions asked over and over again, and anyway, its easier for one seller to manage their own ads rather than you mods having to dig through x amount trying to clean them up.

If you can get people to listen without having to take any extra measures then good, but I can guarantee it is only a temporary solution, the same thing will happen again for sure. :? Human nature never fails mate....

Cheers. :)

I will be not changing anything about for sale forums. It is bit complicated to change the program and People actually like to have the option to ask relevant question.

It would be much easier in the future to disable account for some time of people who do not respect other people's add.

Hmmmm...you seem to have a lot of opinions on what a seller wants for someone who has never advertised anything in the for sale forum. Not trying to be mean but Big_guys "straw that broke the camels back" thread comes to mind.

Well not having placed an ad in the forsale forum means nothing, I have sold things before, not here but selling is basically the same no matter where you go. As I said before, I don't really care if it is changed or not, I thought we were having a discussion about "possible" changes that could be made to make it "better". I am not the only one who thinks like this.

I am not sure what you mean by this, how does this relate to me?? Did I do something in that thread?? Can you post a link to the thread so I can see what you are talking about??

Cheers. :)

While I agree that a location should be provided I don't think you can blame anybody for not wanting to put personal information i.e. a phone number, on a public forum.

For what it's worth I am a member of a reef keeping forum also and we have the same problem with people not putting their location either in their profile or in the thread. All we have been able to do at this point is "sticky" a thread with guidlines for people wishing to place an ad in the forum stating what should be included in their post.

Mick

That's exactly what is in the for sale forum Mick.

This is guideline 4:

4. It is suggested that items for sale include all relevant details, to avoid unnecessary questions and answers. A photo of the item/s for sale is always a good move

It seems that not many people have bothered to read the guidelines though.

Hey Greebo I would still like to know what was meant by this:

I came across the thread you mention in a search today and remembered back to you saying this to me, I never had anything to do with that thread, I never posted to it and I certainly wasn't the person involved in it!!

What does that thread have to do with me??

Cheers.

What I meant was try and see it from the perspective of someone like Bob who sells lots of snakes. Imagine having to constantly pm the same answer to people over and over. With the current system, one person asks and everybody can see the answer. Your argument was that if someone really wants to sell a snake then they should be happy to answer all the pm's ...but if someone is really interested then then would call the number on the ad and speak in person. Tyrekickers are not so bad for someone who sells maybe one snake a year but to deal with it on a daily basis would be most frustrating.
You had nothing to do with that thread and I wasnt trying to imply that you did.

Thats cool, I was just making sure that everyone else could see that you were not implying that. :)

My argument is that if you want to sell a snake and put an ad on a forum like this then you have to be willing to at least view all the PM's that come in about it, of course if you don't want PM's then you can state so in your ad, of course people will still PM, but the seller wouldn't answer them. And from what I can tell, Bob had no problem answering the PM's, his problem was with the person who sent the PM's, their attitude and demands. Therefore I don't really see how that thread relates to this one at all.

Cheers.

Crikey ,who put the defibrelators on this post? this one is DNR folk! :p
