[h=5] Scam Alert! This seriously just happened to me and although I worked out it was a scam before I told them anything dangerous I thought the warning needs to go out!

If you are contacted by someone claiming to represent the 'Federal Department of Reclaims' telling you that you are getting a payment of several thousand dollars because your bank has illegally over charged you... please feel free to blow a very loud whistle in the receiver.

Whilst talking to them I Googled what they told me and got a page of scam warning results, as soon as I mentioned that I had Googled them and that I had a page of results infront of me they hung up before I could even mention the word 'scam'.

After ringing the police I found out that they had already received 4 similar complaints today alone. So happy whistling everyone!

Thanks for the heads up :) Although I wouldn't even give God himself any of my personal details lol I am either very cautious or must be hiding something

I don't give out my home phone number to anyone, not even family, so as soon as I get a call I know straight up it is telemarketers or whatever. Since I can't get Naked DSL where I am, I have to have line rental, so may aswell have a phone. Everyday around 6pm... calls till about 7pm.

Not sure how true it is but I heard a story on the radio on Tuesday about a guy in England who had purchased a couple of things from telemarketers and the word had spread and consequently he was bombarded with calls. Finally in frustration he got his home number turned into a premium number so every time someone called they paid him 17c/min for the call. Obviously he told family and friends only to use his mobile number and never his home one. When the telemarketers rang he pretended he was interested and kept them talking for as long as he could, in one case for 4 hours. Apparently he made around $500 in the first year.

As I said I'm not sure how true it is but would be a great way to get your own back!

DITTO......right pain :(

Glad you caught on to them! I was just talking about this with my other half tonight!
I had to call Telstra today about a nuisance number calling me over and over this week. It was an international number but if I answered it just beeped or disconnected. The Telstra employee told me that they have been getting a lot of calls due to glitches in auto-dialling machines overseas that call repeatedly.

It's horrible how many people (a lot or the older generation apparently) that aren't aware of the 'scams' and fall victim. How pathetic they must be to try to con innocent people like that!
