Hi all, I'm new here.

Just a quick couple of Qs, I currently own an eastern bluetongue (vet said it's a male), and am interested in getting a shingleback as well, as they're my favourite lizard. When I move to the Blue Mountains (Sydney), I plan on housing the bluey in a rather large outdoor enclosure, which I'd like to put the shingleback in as well. I have 3 questions which I'm hoping someone more experienced than myself can answer:

1) Can I house the two reptiles together, and/ or do I need to "introduce" them first?

2) Is it possible to install a dehumidifier (or several, if need be) in an outdoor enclosure? Will they work outdoors?

3) Do I need to acclimatise the bluetongue to the dehumidified air first, or can I just whack him straight in?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Cheers,
Amanda.

hahaha i wanna do the exact same thing idd be rely intrested to kno as well

imo i wouldn't house a eastern bluey and a shingleback together. shinglebacks need it pretty dry otherwise they can end up with RI and scale rot and probably other things.

it would depend on where you live to weather you can keep them outside aswell.

if i was to keep shinglebackswith another lizard it would be more shingles or central beardies which i already do

Thanks for your responses!

There's an overlap of territory for easterns and shinglebacks, so I know the eastern can take the drier air, my only question is will he first need to be acclimatised to it, or can I just whack him straight in?

The Blue Mountains is where I'll be moving to. As of my last check (some time ago), the closest shinglebacks get to the Blue Mountains is Lithgow. For anyone not acquainted with the area, it's approximately a 90 min. drive (keeping in mind Blue Mountains- higher altitude).

Does anyone know if a dehumidifier (or if need be, several) will work outdoors?? And does anyone have any experience with keeping a shingleback and a bluetongue together?

Shinglebacks and common bluetongues together

I have kept them together without any problems for many years. Note that they can crossbreed with each other. In South Australia both species are often found in the same areas and habitat.
