That sounds like it must be where the snake equivilent of the umbilical cord must have been joined. Thats where they feed off the contents of their eggs. Sorry I cant say for certain, I've never seen a new hatchie. :D

my stimmi isnt a new hatchling, shes a year in a couple of days and yeh, she has a little slit no longer than a cm long that runs against the grain of her ventral scales about 2/3 down her body caudally,
im confused lol

if its a male thats where he keeps his brains ooops did i say that out loud???
just kidding ... i have only noticed the one slit, i assumed thats where he poops and hides his hemipenes.

It is very hard to see the slit, i looked at my brothers jungle yearling and it was hard to find.

With my hatchling it is barely 1cm, so i guess with your yearlings being about 1 cm as well, it has got to be the belly button as other have mentioned.

The anus clearly grows with age on the snake.

I've never bred snakes but i guess any breeders could shed some light where in fact does the yolk get absorbed in a hatchling.

These are pics of a ball python, googled python and yolk, the slit appears to be in the correct location.

I guess the slit/bellybutton is like ours and is sealed. Well i know i wont try to probe my stimmy hehehe

If you never seen it and have a friendly snake, you can see the slit when you reflect it with your rooms light.

I've learnt what the holes of a snake are now, so i am happy

The above ball python survived and is healthy

yeh must be the belly button, so then they do have a 3 in 1 hole?? you'd think theyd get quite a few urinary tract infections with a system built like that lol

this thread really is bizzare.
could only happen on aps. lol.

I agree trueblue........a bit of sex education thrown in there as well lol
I enjoy reading some threads , but some on here are just ermmmmmm a bit weird lol

Although I haven't actually checked out the insides of a snake, I would imagine that although the cloaca is the only physical opening, inside the cloaca the rectum and ureters would work independently. The hemipenes retract into the tail, so would not interfere with waste excretion.

Some of my adult and sub-adult snakes have very obvious slits on their belly, where the scales have never completely joined together. On others, its a barely noticeable crease on a couple of scales, and unless you knew what you were looking for, you probably would never see it.
