Hi Guys,

I have just been given a snake by a friend to look after as he is going away, acutally unsure of the breed he is caramel colour with darker caramel spots will post a pic later, i have noticed he has one blue cloudy clear eye, alot of people say this means he is going to shed although im unsure due to snake not feeding at this point, i will get him feeding asap just wanted some thoughts on this? unsure if the previous person has recognised the eye as it may have been a recent change, or maybe its always there only had him overnight so not sure how long it will be there?

some wont eat if their eyes are milky,..im a bit baffled why its just 1 eye though,.....could it have something to do with retained shed from last time?

mine tend to be milky for around a week, then clear up for a few days before they shed.

hi chris well i only got him given to me yesterday as i have snakes already, none of mine have ever done this, havent tried to feed him yet as i just wanted to get a few thoughts on it, previous person has tried to feed wont eat. Have noticed his skin is a bit funny, not nessecarily retained shed but some parts look a little dodgy im not sure as mine have always shed great, i will try post some pics later might give you a better idea, although his eye has no black bit in it, the whole thing is just blue and clear is that normally how they are when there milky or can you still see there black bit?

maybe hes blind,...?!

with mine u can still kinda see the black bit,...

would definately be interested to see pix,....

hi chris, yeah thats what mine looks like, i thought the possibility of him being blind but i didnt know, i will post pics as it is strange that one eye is completely normal and ones funny, guess after that il wait til the w.e to see if it goes away if not il take him to my herp vet, appreciate all your help

could be, im thinking and hoping its a retainted shed over his eye, il post pics later of both eyes, but have booked in to get him looked at on sat so will keep posted with what it ends up being

Hey guys just letting use know that talk snake to vet, as i thought its a hypo coastal carpet, was glad to hear that she was quite a rare colouring hopefully she stays like that. Vet seems to think snake has come in the way of some trauma, maybe a bird picked it up or something ike that hence little scars down his body and the eye. Vet wants me to wait until he sheds to see if it is a retained specticle and after shed if it doesnt come good then we will go from there, seems to think that he also cant see out of it right now, and when she looks into the eye she cant see the normal eye structure said she hasnt seen something like that before

Where abouts do you live? How did your friend aquire the snake and how long are you looking after it for?

Hypo coastal?? looks more like a Bredli to me
I believe the pic your getting mixed up with is one of Chris's not the coastal that the thread is about now andy ;)..........
and as far as this thread goes ..if your looking after this so called 'mates snake' ..wouldnt he have known what happened to his own snake now mmmmm?? and told you so ? or did this 'bird injury ' happen when you have been looking after it ??? something on the wiffy side ...hope you can clear this misunderstanding up now :)

Hi Guys, i got given it by mums friend whom found him where he works, took it from the wild, which i dont condone but now that i have it im trying to take care of it they guy i got given it from doesnt know anything about snakes had it for about 2 weeks and decided to give it to me as he is going up north for good. Vet advised he probably had a fight with food or a bird picked him up, with a possiblle rupture of the eye, but at this stage jsut wants to make him a have a shed and see if that effects it at all.

It could be what i call white eye.
Its when a duct in the top of its mouth gets infected and or blocked causing this problem. It can be fixed with a solution of water and betadine.
Take it to a vet that knows about such things to make sure as it needs to be fixed if this is the problem

BECAREFUL TIARNE keeping wild caught snakes without the correct permits regardless of trying to do the right thing ,can get you into trouble ...if your in QLD ring Australia zoo and tell them you have an injured carpet snake , they will give it the right treatment now ..if your in another state or not that close to AZ try and find a carer in your area ...

yep another wild caught snake being keep in captivity....................................................

i think its from its last shed or catract ( or from a shed that and has never been removed could be dangrous to his sight ) i could only say see a vet who deals with reptiles !

hope it clears up

hey mate yeah im dealing with a herp vet at the moment that i use regularly yeah were hoping it was a retained specticle thats why we want to try get him shedding see if he has problems with the eye, at the moment she cant see the actual structure of his eye when she looks into it with the light so she is thinking at this point in time he cant see but if indeed it is retained specticles it coulld just b a build up of them hence why he cant see hopefully its nothing major we will monitor it until he sheds :)
