Yes, Afro, thats an auction, and a blind auction is when you dont know the other bids. There are several other forms of auction as well.

So an ad that says offers is an auction? Sorry mate best thing here I think is that we agree to disagree as I think neither of us is going to change our view on this :)

i thought a bid when you dont know the outher bids was called a tender but im proberbly wrong

how much did you pay just put us out of our misery. and i like the way you did it, this is the offer yes or no right now.

i agree with you completly, in any auction you know the amount, maybe not the bidder, but always the price, when you make an offer like what was asked in this case it is called a tender, and really, who cares, you made a tender, you got what you wanted, thats life, and good luck with your new guy, i'd have paid that price if i was after him,

cheers,
steve...

I'll say it again, BLIND auction. check your facts.
Get it right Steve, jeez I know dozens of people who live here who know this, Where do you live, under a rock? Oh thats right, FNQ.
A tender requires you to outline and submit what you intend to do and how much you will charge when offering to supply goods and or services.

Hi guys,
I see that some of you are a bit unhappy with our sale of the two animals posted. More to the point, our method. Can I just clarify that it was not an auction and just an ask for offers. We never at any stage told people they were near the mark and that they should 'up' their offer. I would consider this auctioning. After the sale, we emailed all others interested and some of them emailed back saying they would have offered to pay more than their initial offer. Some even quoted much more than what the animal went for. The person who purchased the animal offered the final price and our customer accepted that. We did not want to disclose price, leaving this up to the person who bought it.

Sam,
I think it is fair enough, it sort of just evolved into an auction through, I think, no fault of yours. The biggest 'problem' was that it was being sold through a 3rd party which probably complicated things. I would have liked it and offered what I thought was an OK price for the animal, the fact that someone wanted it more is fine.

Sam, I decided to highlight it because I thought it was of interest and it obviously was.
As to the morality, ethics or otherwise you keep your own counsel. Apart from the semiotic aspect it was just opinion and I saw no slight against URS, the seller or yourself.
