I have a kind of stupid herp question for you.

Well I have had Muse my bredli since Nov last year, so I like to think I know his personality really well.

For the last 2-3 weeks he seems a lot more quiet than usual, and a little out of character. He normally moves around a fair bit but has been in the exact same spot in this tank since Friday. At first I thought he was leading up to a shed as he is looking a bit dark but there are no signs that he is going to shed anytime soon, haven't seen him milky but i could have missed it.

He isn't refusing food which is a good sign. Temps are 30-33 on hot end and about 24-26 on cold end. He has multiple hides and plenty of water. I have checked him for mites and worms and apart from being very quiet he is in excellent condition. No signs of illness at all.

Anyways so I guess I am asking, is it normal for a snake to just get lathargic and be less interested in it's surroundings from time to time? Do you think it sounds like he is getting ready to shed? And do you think I should still be offering food to him or let him be for a week or two?

I'm probably just being paranoid but he's just a little out of character for his usual self.

I only handle him about twice a week and he is kept in a quiet location so he shouldn't be stressed.

Any thoughts?

i would not be to concerned, especially if he is still eating , i would keep offering food as you normally do.
what is your snake like when you get him out of his enclosure?.
cheers:)

He's still really happy to be out of his enclosure. He is relaxed and happy to investigate, he does seem a bit more calm than usual tho, he is more happy to just sit in my lap than try to escape and explore.

Even though the temps in his enclosure are warm enough, it's almost like the way he would be acting if he were cold if that makes sense.

Thanks for your help
rach

I have added a pic of him in his enclosure. He is between 12 -18 months old

from what you have descibed i do not think anything is wrong with your snake. you know your snake so keep monitoring him for any changes, if any.
cheers:)

He sounds fine to me too..... Just keep doing what you are doing and keep offering him food, he very well could be coming into a shed.... is he due for one? when was his last?

His last was about 3-4 months ago so he is probably due for one. He does look like he is coming into a shed and his skin looks a bit rough so hopefully that's all it is.

A big thanks to MoreliaMatt and in the grass and also to those who PM me. Muse shed last night and is back to his old self and looking more beautiful than ever. I guess I was just being a paranoid mum!

Cheers
Rach

Glad to hear he is All Good Rache.....

Only just read this post... And was going to suggest only a Shed was coming up ...Given you mentioned last one was 3-4 months ago..And you noticing skin colour was much darker than normal...

Great to hear :)

i got really paranoid the other day for similar reasons. My girl was was lying loosly with her head near on the side! i also missed cloudy eyes and my girl was in much better form after she shed the next day. she must have just been suffering from pre shed syndrome (PSS) haha.
