hi just got my first stimpson last week.it shedded 3 days ago and doesnt want to eat.is it to soon after shedding and does the mice have to be a certain temp..:)

They're usually really hungry after the shed. Do you feed your snake while it's on the hot side? and how do you thaw your mice?

iv tried both sides and i thaw it out naturally..?

Mine tend to eat on the hot side, i've heard somewhere that they usually feed on the hotside as it helps it to digest food. Thaw it out naturally? You should try putting the mice in a bag (plastic sandwich bag etc.) and put it in warm water (not boiling!! this could be messy!). Make sure the mouse is all soft and warm and no hard bits, you should also smell a strong scent.

stimos can be fussy i have one that wont eat rats wont eat mice but will only take rats with mouse blood on them. with defrosting just stick the mouse/rat in a cup with some boiling water leave it for a couple of minutes and then dry with some paper towel. i also have a jungle that wont take food from my hand or even while some one is in the room so i have to leave the rat on the bottom of the encloser over night, but without fail it wont be there in the morning. also a snake wont eat before a shed but will eat immediately after a shed they are usually hungriest just after a shed.

cheers

No problem, good luck and keep us updated.

so she finally ate, was trying with the pinkies but she didn't want a bar of them, so tried with a fuzzie and she went for it. now a few days after feeding shes as active as i've ever seen her!!! just keeps trying to suss out somewhere to get out. took her out of enclosure this morning and she lashed out at my girlfriend as she walked past and now seems a tad peeved.... should i be handling her more or should i just leave her alone? had her for 2 and a half weeks now.

using boiling water can be messy.. :p

i cant go near my spotted, even to change his water 24 hours after feeding coz he's still in "food mode" and everything to him is food.
about 48 hours later he is right to handle again... for a day or two then he goes back into food mode.

You haven't said how old she is, leave her a couple of days after feeding, then if shes young you can pick her up about 10-15 min a day. If you just got her leave her to settle for a few weeks:) If shes mature you can handle her as much as you want to, but it's still good to let them settle a bit first.
feed her every 7 days if young maybe up to 2 weeks if older. It's a good idea if you feed them the same time every week, like Sunday night ,so by the next weekend you can handle her:D
wait until shes in her hide, quickly take it of and place your hand over her, then gently pick her up, thats how we do it

shes about 60cm and about 18 months old.i thinks she spins out when i try and grab her.ill wait till shes in her hide next time.i dont get her out very often ill try more i think.and i do feed her every sunday 2 fuzzies..cheers mate..

18 mths and only 2 fuzzies I think you may have to go up a few sizes;) feed something that will show a bump in her when its eaten!:D

if shes bigger (18mths) let her know your there and use a small hook to just lift her and slide your hand under her. she will settle down;)

My stimo used to hit me and draw blood at least 6 times in 5 minuts of handling it......Now four weeks later it all sweet no probs...but my other half is still sh#t scared ,just be patient and put up with the hits and dont put it straight back after a hit , otherwize it thinks...every time it bites it get to go back in its enclosure...hope this helps.....

cheers 4 the replie anybody got photos of a fully grown stimson??how thick cn they grow..
