Stubborn Stimson (approx 16 months) seems to be unsure of feed. He is presenting signs of being hungry, so, when i go to feed him he approaches and starts to go up and down the food, then just moves away. I persist a little but he seems...scared of it, very flinchy? He hasn't been traumatised and looks healthy, faecal and urea production is norm and my temps aren't out of wack so:
-Is it just him saying 'piss off I don't want it'?
-Season influence?
-Other?

I have left it on his log and think the less I disturb-I may have a running chance of getting him to eat. Is it unhygenic to leave it there? I plan to do so for a few hours. Its been about 8-10 days since his last feed

Confused!!!

bit of history needed.... how long have you had him and in that time has he been feeding regularly? also leaving it in there isn't so bad for a little bit. normally if you leave it overnight cuz temps aren't hot and the rat wont go stinky. then if its still there in the morning get rid of it.

I have a stimmie that never eats from the tongs every time, so i leave the mouse in there and even after two hours she still doesnt eat but when i leave it overnight its gone in the morning every time :)

I have had him for about 6 months. Feeds regularly.

Also, in regards to lighting/heat. I have my UV light which comes on at 8am and set off @ 3. Then I have my heat lamp which is run via thermostat and set at 29. It's triggered to turn light on/off when it drops too low. Is this correct?

some snakes self hibernate apparently. he can probably tell that the air temps are dropping and might not want to feed because of it. maybe just leave him a few weeks and try again. my coastal has gone 6 weeks without a feed at the moment. i'm actually supposed to be feeding her right now.... *oops*

Thanks for that. Ill see how things go tonight and if not, leave for sometime.
