Hey guys, my stimmie started shedding on wednesday and got the majority of it off except for a bit that leads from his jaw down for a few centimeters. It's almost as if the skin underneath his jaw didn't peel away when they rub their heads to break the skin.

I've tried peeling it off, letting him swim around in warm water, letting him slither through a damp pillow case, and rubbing at it with a wet cloth. I'm a little scared to peel it, since it seems I'm peeling it off against the scales (if that makes sense).

I'll try to get some photos up soon, but I managed to trash the photo settings on the camera and my phone's quality is shockers. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks, Justin.

I can't help, unfortunately, but I'm curious so I'll give you a bump in case someone else can. If you can somehow get some photos that would be fantastic.

Give him a bath in warm water for about 7 minutes, this should loosen the skin. The rub the un-shedded skin on a towel. Most of the unshed skin should easily fall off!

Best of luck,
James (Reptilemaniac)

P:S: Watch him at all times when he is bathing incase he drowns!

If this fails put a large sandstone rock in his/her enclosure the snake will rub its skin on the rough rock hopefully this will help it shed its skin.

Hope this helps,
James (Reptilemaniac)

This cold dry weather can sometimes cause that & sometimes even if it is not cold & dry.

Sometimes it can take a good soaking for some time maybe even 15 to 30 mins to loosen the skin, but that normally does the job. If after that it is still not loose enough to remove just repeat the proccess each day until it eventually comes off.

Try not to pull the skin but rather rub it off if that makes sense.Near the mouth can be daunting but it should not attack esp if there is loose skin there because it can be irritating to them & they will prefer it removed.

Cheers
Ian

i had an issue with retained shed on a jungle, tried all the above and still couldnt remove it. Someone recommended a finger off a rubber glove to rub in the same direction as the scales. Worked a treat and easily removed the retained shed

Cheers guys. I've managed to get a bit more off, but I still can't get the skin on the chin to budge. I'll kee you updated.

- Justin.
