Most of our non-desert species are kept on it with no problems, obviously we wouldn't recommend it for small snakes.

So long as it is cleaned frequently than it is quite clean hygenic aswell.

An inch layer will also provide the same hygenic if the substrate is cleaned weekly i.e. washed with detergent and then a mixture of bleach and water and left too dry.
 
ok excellent guess it would look good in my jungle enclosure when i get her, when she is old enough, it wont scratch her scales and make her look dull at all? ive heard from someone that sand can make there scales look a bit dull as it scratches it your thought?
 
dont use sand it stains the animals ... iv used it with beardies and they turned out really red lol

naw not keen on any sand but childrens washed sand, that red sand is full of clay and causes impactation bad stuff lol and full of dye
