A coat or two of water based varnish will make it even easier to keep clean. Dowels can be screwed in thru the sides of a click clack to keep them in place. They need to be pre drilled though to stop them from splitting.
The wood is pretty secure, I spent a while sizing it up because I always cut it to big so had to size it again. I don't think it's going to slip, it's in there pretty tight.
