My mates snake has mites and i told him not to come round till he gets rid of his mite prob what is the best chemical and where can he get it ? From syd

Top of Decent from callington and herp shop our sponsor sells it normally

i just got rid of mites on 1 of my snakes in same room on top of multiple tanks didn't spread at all and only took 7 days didn't see any after day 3, i took out everything and soaked it in boiling water for a couple hours then put it out side after that i put the snake in a 50l tub with some water to soak and steamed out the enclosure from top to bottom and the out side too then vacuumed out and then ran the snake under running water, dried off and put back in the enclosure with nothing but the water bowl did this 2 times a day for the first 3 days morning then night and for the last 4 days i did it 1ce a day haven't seen any since. i was also steaming the other tanks on the outside every day and around the floor a little. that's how i did it chem free and happy with the results.

Will let him know hes pulling his hair out thanks heaps.. Are mites transportable on clothes or skin ive heard they are ?

Yes, they transport very easily. I used an aerosol mite killer that worked wonderfully, I don't remember what it's called though (when I get a chance I'll upload a pic)

Lice shampoo (Nix/Rit) mixed with a gallon of distilled water. It has got to be the shampoo. Over here it costs about $8 for a bottle of it.

Take the bottle of shampoo, mix it with one gallon of distilled water. Place the mixture in a spray bottle. Remove the water bowl from the reptiles viv. Spray. Wait 24 hours to place the water bowl back in. Do this again in 2 weeks. After the second 2 weeks your mite problem is gone.
