lol how come I only find pythons and colubrids and only one elapid? Apperently down near me theres a spot full of red bellies, want to see some so bad theyre one of my favorite elapids.
Hoping to add some pics after I go to mackay, what am I likely to see there? I know my mums friend whos into snakes finds loads of Carpets, BHP's and King Browns up there, as well as some EB's. What subspecies of Carpet would you get up there? Just coastals? And are Northern Tree Snakes found there?

BECAUSE!

Elapids are diurnal and pythons are nocturnal. Go out at night time.

ohh and not just any elapids they always have to be the realy deadly ones

(the least deadliest elapid ive found is a red belly)

Funny thing is the one elapid I saw was during the night, and the two pythons I saw were during the day ;)

And i bet it would have been a hot night for the elapid and coming into/out of the colder nights for the python... right?

There are always a few animals that will break the mold!

Yeah I know, and you'd know more than me cos you go herping a lot :) Mine were just flukes and the second Python was indoors and asleep anyway.

The reason I saw the elapid at night is because it was a Small Eyed Snake (the relocator said red belly but he was a bit drunk and has given crap advice in the past, it was most likely a small eyed) and they're nocturnal, right?

Yes they are, i was assuming you saw something a bit more common and large. I really don't know that much, i just talk like i do. If you keep up your efforts you'll very quickly overtake me and most other herpers around here!

Haha thanks, I'm definately learning, when I get a hobby I become obsessed and try to learn all there is to know. Obviously I'll never know everything but I'll try ;)

I KNOW! but when ever i go right into snake territory im only allowed day hunts

Nice finds.

Pink tongues still elude me, was the 1st coastal in a roof of a house? at my last house i had afew liveing up there than i got a Galah.... they allmost ate it so i got rid of the galah and kept the snakes around... senceable choice i thought

Heaps of elapids are nocturnal. Bonus most of the really nocturnal ones are less dangerous, (most). I have counted over a hundred Golden, White and Dwarf Crowns in a single 100m stretch of road.

Haha thank god the Taipans and Browns ect arent out at night, that'd make night time herping really scary.

Not true. alltho i have not seen a wild taipan during the day or night i know they are active both, depending. I have seen a hand full of textilis and nuchalis during the night.

lol just dont tutch them you'll be allrite.

I do remember an old friend working in security at Dreamworld stood on a big Brown one night while doing the rounds, he said he almost had a heart attack, only thing that saved him from being bitten was the head was on the other side of a pole so when it whipped around it didn't have a clear line to his leg, let's just say he has never done the night time rounds without turning his torch on again lol, when he watched it go it was easily able to cross the log ride channel with "a fair amount of its body on both sides"
