Hi all.

My woma is having troubles shedding, lots of baggy dry skin hanging off. He has been like that for about 4 days now. I have put a deep big water bowl (much bigger than he is) inside his enclosure and have bathed him in it a few times. I have been spraying him frequently.

Over the past few weeks he has been sick - he was on antibodics from the vet for a little over a week, a couple of weeks ago. Does this have anything to do with his problems shedding. I was thinking the stress can cause a bad shed?

How long should I leave him to try to shed naturally? How long can I let him go with his skin like that? What will happen if the skin doesnt come off? Should I take him back to the vet?

He is relative new to me, Ive had him about 2-3 mths, he hasnt shed at all since I have had him...

HELP!

yea i would say its due to him getting sick, but it also depends because snakes can take a week or so to shed after going opeque so keep that in mind. If in doubt spend the money and go see the vet again, is he eating while in shed?

he's at 30 degrees, 150w heat lamp
I have 2 water bowls for humidity, one big enough for him to bath in.
I give him a spray every few hours after about 3 pm.
He skin looks very dry. I'm worried to turn down the heat a bit as get said I needed to keep it at 30 for his infection

yea keep him warm I would be tempted to turn the temp up a bit more to about 35 degrees, I would also soak him in warm water twice a day for about 10minutes each time.

heats on all the time, unless the thermastat turns it off. Its on most of the time, only turns off a few times in the Arvo.

If it has an RI you need to lower the humidity not raise it, espesh for a woma.Thats doing more harm than good.

reduce humidity, keep temps high 32 ambient, soak atleast twice daily. fi the skin has begun to come off then assist shed.

Is there anyway to help the shed without the humidity? Should I take out one of the bowls? Stop bathing? Stop spraying? I thought the high humidity was only a prob for ri if the temp was too low?

humidity can help with ri's but not prolonged high humidity. do what i said above. and assist shed the snake and you will have no problems if you were local i would come give you a hand with it all.

and yes stop spraying and only have the one water bowl.

ok thanks, second water bowl is out. What should I do to assist? I tried rubbing from his head downwards, some came off. Sorry for all the qs, my other carpet python has never had any trouble shedding so this is new to me.

ok do these steps

1. soak in luke warm water for 15 mins in preferably a closed clear container so you can watch it . make sure the water is deep enough for the entire snake to lay under the water, just make sure it doesn't drown

2. damp a towel
3. put the snake on the towel and cover it with the rest of the towel
4. when it slithers its way to the edge, hold the snake gently through the towel and let it slither out, drawing the un shed with it. be patient it takes time. if the skin is extra stuck repeat soak. , do this until all retained shed is off.

so is the heat lamp on all the time? i'd be inclind to use a heat mat also because constant light will stress him. do you know how heat was applied to him before you got him?
