Who is the person you know that keeps Speckled Browns (P. guttata)?

Shambulah, I think you are thinking of the banded form of the Western Brown Snake or Gwardar (P. nuchalis). Here are some banded specimens of P. nuchalis.

If I am wrong, please correct me.

No, P. nuchalis arent the ones I'm thinking of...

There are banded (form) speckled browns and plain/patternless/unbanded (form) speckled browns... The first one pictured in your original post was a banded form of speckled brown... I've seen both forms in person/real life... They're pretty cool in the flesh...

Have a look in "A Complete Guide to Reptiles of Australia" By Steve Wilson and Gerry Swan... It clearly states and shows pictures of both...
Although, the unbanded one in the book has a "spot" on the back of its neck, and one of the people I know of who has them, I'm pretty sure one of theirs is completely patternless and doesnt have that neck spot... It's probably even possible that it is their snake in the second picture you linked to in your original post... I'd have to ask them and double check though...
