I think this forum needs a separate area for the flirting, come ons, and sharing of sexual experiences, jokes, links, bikini waxing experiences, etc etc etc.

These things come up all the time in herp threads and other threads that have nothing to do with it.

I for one am sick of wasting my time sifting through it, and as an adult female with a partner and 2 children, I don't feel the need to read some of the smut that comes on here.

People say if you don't like it....don't read it!

I'd love to do that, so if a separate section that all this 'fun' stuff that alot seem to enjoy can be placed on here for it all to be moved to, that would be great. Then the moderators wouldn't miss some of the inappropriate stuff that comes up in herp threads (of all places) that sit there for a couple of days before being moderated, because I guess you just don't think that things like that would come up.

Yes, it's fun, yes it's lighthearted, yes, some people can/can't take a joke, but I don't want to read it. I come to a reptile site, not a cybersex site. And not much of an example is being set for our younger members here who are our future and who need to know what's appropriate and what's not.
And it's as boring at bat sh#t.

this has come from the posts about introduce your self here and that is what i did nothing sexual was said i got asked a Q and i replied and it was done in the Off Topic Chit Chat part so cant see that i have done anything wrong god if you cant take the heat well you know the saying online dating god thats putting the foot before the other there god this site needs to lighten up abit and have fun but i have to say i liked that part "and as an adult female with a partner and 2 children" bit what am not an adult this can go forever reading things wrong and taken the wrong view gets ppl in big poo well i've had my 2 cents worth am me like it or lump it maybe you should just stay away from the chit chat part and keep your eyes way from the so called smut that comes on here.

Sure there are some childish posts around, but that happens EVERYWHERE, as long as its all meant as fun, and doesnt get into gross detail I see no harm.

And I really fail to see how anyone can take any offence to some people flirting as long as its not in a feral way geeze c'mon !

You have your opinion and I respect that.. you dont like stuff like that fine.. thas up to you.. but I really think your in the minority, and as long as people keep stuff civil I dont think much can/will or should be done about it.

You have a right to say what you want here, so do others, within reason of course.

I am an adult female 50+ and it doesn't offend me!!
If it is a totally reptile site without a bit of fun it is just way toooo boring!! How can you get any idea of someone's personality without the bit of chit chat!
Oh and yes I do have a partner and anyone who knows us, knows that we do have a life as well and that we usually don't have time to scratch ourselves!!!!!

I think Nome raises a valid point. However, that is why Chit Chat is where it is : that is, the Off Topic section.

SJ created that forum due to too many people posting off-topic stuff in the Herp related sections, and instituted the rule that the herp section should not go off topic (the topic being herps, I guess).

"Introduce Yourself Here" was placed in the Off Topic section for that very reason.

However : no matter where you post, on or off topic, you must abide by the rules..... and we WILL moderate anything we see that gets out of hand.

It's interesting, by the way, the number of herp-related posts that appear in Chit Chat! I move some of them when I see them, but I was wondering why that is. Any thoughts on this anyone?

Sammie, what you say is relatively mild to some of the things that have been said, and I wasn't referring to you, just generalising. And there was all the talk I mentioned over the last six months, some which has been deleted coz it went so wrong.
One thing was a link put up about a sad cat story, and the link was to a very disturbing sadistic site (with no warning whatsoever) which happened to have the story on it (i didn't stay long enough to look, as the pictures alone were of very graphic sexual violence). There have been many jokes about pedophilia (IT IS NOT A JOKE), as recently as yesterday, which is now removed. blah blah blah.

People have to remember that kids view this site. The youngest I know of is 12, and as a parent you think a reptile site that promotes itself as a FAMILY SITE is safe for your kids to go to.

The thing is, people have had threads deleted putting up links to another herp forum - that happened to me last week. It was stated in a PM to me that the forum rules say that you can't promote another site without permission (i didn't receive permission).....fair enough, I respect that.

But, the other rules of the forum is that offensive behaviour won't be tolerated, that includes nudity and off jokes.

But it is ignored often, and takes a few complaints to get rid of it. See, certain cartoon avatars depicting drugs, or monkeys doing certain things (SW :wink: ) have been deleted, yet you can have a playboy shot as one.

The yuck comment (and it was really off, believe me) I read yesterday for example was in a herp thread, and it often happens.

I don't care what you want to do and say to each other, but they either need to up the rating of this site, and give people a section to crap on about things like that, and put their jokes in, and whatever.

If it stayed in chit chat, it would be nice, but it doesn't.

I have a right to my opinion, Sammie, and as a parent I don't want my kids reading sexual comments- if that upsets or annoys anyone, I don't give a rats. I just wonder how many parents of the kids on here know what their kids are reading.

And whoever said this won't go anywhere, you are probably right. I just miss the days when I first joined when things like that were moderated and it was a family site....now it seems that the worst offense you do is put up a link to another forum.

Hey! No fair Nome! We moderate and remove stuff all the time. A heck of a lot of it you never see! We've also suspended people for similar offenses. We can't be here 24 hours a day, and we DO do our best. Ok, sometimes we miss the boat, but we do try, and we usually do moderate these types of things as soon as we see them. Yes, I slipped on the one that you complained about yesterday, but we DO try to moderate fairly and discuss any actions we take amongst the moderators to ensure that we have consensus. It is NOT an easy job. We do it because we care. But none of us is perfect.... but we will do the best we can.

Yeah, fair enough David. And I know things are removed when they are missed. I think you have contributed a hell of a lot of your time and work to this site, which was why a lot of us contributed to a gift for you last year.

I don't think there could be enough mods to do the job, and due to the hugely increased traffic over the last 2 years here, things do get out of hand.

I just wish people would think before they post, and think if your comments may offend others, or if you would want YOUR kids reading what you have posted.

And I think this site should carry a parental guidance warning on the welcome page. at least warn parents that there is some material in here that isn't suitable for children.

And all the people that don't care- with the increase in sexual harrassment, pedophilia and crime, it is important for us to be an example for the next growing generation.
