Green Elapid Poo

My elapids are starting to poo out green uric acid and the rest of the poo in normal.Has anyone had this problem before.

Please don't suggest a trip to the vet,there clueless where i come from.

What are you feeding them, what you put in usually has a pretty big part of what comes out...

This can be a sign of a parasitic infection which requires flagyl to fix, this can only be diagnosed through a fecal float. Get a fresh sample, take it into the vet and get one done, they will be able to diagnose the type of infection that it has. A vet can only give you this medication and must do the fecal float to be able to determine if it is needed.

it can also be a sign if problems with organs, it is very unusual. where do u live, a trip to the vet is the best advise to give.

My animals have been treated for parasites with fenbenazole,praziquantel and flagyl (liquid) injected into there food.I have done the local ring around and no vet seems to know what there doing,but are willing to take my money.Looks like i will have to go for a 3-4 hour drive to sydney.

I had a very similar problem , eastern brown, the first day i got it i noticed that its poo was green uric acid, (fluro green). the next couple of days it died.

Dose it look infected around the anal scales?

Red Bellies and Tigers.The smaller ones are housed in tubs and the bigger ones are in melamine cages.Kept at room temperature.

There anal scales look fine and so do the rest of there body no lumps or anything.Eating and moving around as normal they just have green poo.

Did you get a fecal float done before you treated any of the snakes? The treatment can be toxic if you are not careful with it. Green poo is NOT a good sign, most that show this die in a short period of time, sometimes it can be cured, however if there is nothing in the fecal float then you are looking at liver malfunction, this is terminal.

I didn't get a fecal float done because of the distance i have to go to a decent vet.I have spoken to a vet this morning and have organised a time to get a fecal float done.He also said that the green poo (uric acid) can be a side effect from the flagly and reptiles having a slow metabolism it can take them longer to pass the drugs than mammals.I hope that's what it is and not liver problems.

Had this happen to me i treated it with high temps and Baytrill comonly used on birds. this was two years ago and there going fine also used sulphur mix get this from petshops for birds.
Because they are still eating they couldnt be in too bad of shape

ANY vet can do a fecal float, they do not need to be a specialist reptile vet, but make sure you get the right dosage rates for reptiles once diagnosed!

I have sent of some feces to the vet who will send it off to the lab.
As soon as i hear something i will let you guys know.
