I personally would have the bath tub with a little bit of luke warm water in it, enough so where the snake moves it will remain in the water but if it wishes it's head or upper body be out it can rest on the sides of the tub this should help keep stress to a minimal level. In the bath I would add a little amount of shed ease.

Putting a python in a tub with water in it would be just as stressful if not more stressful
Plus heating the adhesive would make the problem worse coz it would leave residue

and good to here that you got the tape of

why not just wait until he sheds? or would it make the shed hard to do?

I don't think it is as easy as that James. When snakes shed the old skin is stretchy so that they can get it off easy. The glue from tape may set the skin hard, also making the old skin stick down to his new layer. Can cause painful damage and stress the little snake.

I have heard many suggest the olive oil. It has many great uses in pet medicine. What does it have that ordinary vegetable oil hasn't got? (besides the olives)

Reptiledude that is good news that you got the tape off. Lucky little snake :) Please don't put that hidebox back in his tank.

I have used orange oil on a cotton bud or water based eucalypts on a cotton bud . But make sure you wipe snake down in fresh warm water. This has worked for venomous snake caught in workshops.
