Yesterday I got two baby Marbled Velvet Geckos (Oedura marmorata) and I’ve looked up info on keeping and breeding this species. However, here seems to be some conflicting information out there, so I hope someone can set me straight.
Heating: some care sheets recommend placing a heat mat under the enclosure, while others claim they only need ambient heat. I have a heat mat, but I’m not sure if I need to use it or not.
Substrate: I’m currently using Kritter Crumble, but some sites recommend sand. Which is better?
Sexing: as they are approximately 4 months old, it was hard to sex them. The guy that tried to sex them thought one was a female based on having visibly longer and thinner torso. I was also told that even if they are the same sex, they are not aggressive towards each other, and can be kept together. At what age would can they be sexed reliably?
Currently they seem at ease with each other and spend a lot of time in close physical contact.
Breeding: they are siblings, would that be an issue if they bred?
They’re currently in a 20x20x20 terrarium, and I’ve got a bigger one that needs to be fitted with a secure lid before I move them.
Here are some pics and a video:
