Hey guys,

Im moving from Townsville to Brisbane in two weeks and will be taking my snakes along for the drive. I'm planning on breeding two of my girl spotteds this year and they've been cooled over the past month. My question is can I introduce them together now or should I wait till after the trip home- its about a 12 hour drive.

Any suggestions is appreciated :D

Hi
Do you have a male ? is he cooling aswell ?

Put them all together now as they will mate all through winter and lay in spring/summer.

Hey,

Yes I have two male- as one pair is normal spotted one pair is blonde spotted. I was just wondering if the stress from the travel could harm the female and her eggs if I introduced them now and she became gravid before the trip.

Moving them around can sometimes ruin the season completly if it's not nessicary to take them with you for the 'drive' I wouldn't take them until you're actually moving.

I am permanently moving from Townsville to Brisbane so I will have to take them with me.

The whole move thing may be enough to put them off reproducing and as for worrying about eggs you are a long way off egg development and her becomming gravid!
I think you need to do a bit more research on reproduction of you pythons and get a good handle on the whole cycle

Yeah gravid wasn't the right word... I didn't realise it took so long for the follicle to be released for fertilization. However with regards to the development of the follicle, should I start introducing them now to get them into the "mood" in hope that it will continue after the trip (as it has been said that the move might put them off reproducing)? Or will the stress have bad outcomes on the follicle development?

You could intro them now and see what happens, but you do realise that it may take multiple matings over the next couple of months to achieve insemination.
The fact of moving them at this time will more than likley have a negative effect
and there is a very slim to no chance of success this season.

Yeah I know the mating will take place over the next few months... I just hadn't thought too much about the physiology behind it which I will continue to research now though. Breeding is just a bonus to having my pythons so if they breed or not it doesn't matter. I think I will just wait till we are home and they have settled in. Hopefully it hasn't disrupted their cycle but I won't hold hope.
