When it comes to reptiles, it is literally the luck of the draw. As the above poster said there isn't really a way to tame a snake as they basically mainly work of instinct. Because spottys are so small everything looks like a massive threat, so to him he's getting all freaked out because so you're huge and he doesn't want to die or get eaten.
He may gain more confidance as he gets older but at the moment, if he just stresses when you go near him it's probably best to just leave him be. You need work around the snake and how it's feeling, you can't train or force them to like being held.
That being said, snakes don't really like things, they just tolerate them, except food LOL. For example, my little stimson doesn't mind coming out every few weeks, but I don't get him out all the time because he is so little. My Darwin python though is always coming out when I open her tank up. I just lift lid, wake her up so she knows the lid is off and then I leave her to her own devices for awhile.
You must also remember that snakes have their own personalities. Some snakes will tolerate being handled and things, some will just never like it no matter what you do, and there isn't too much you can do about it. I don't think that him not being handled before you got him would have contributed to it though. People who breed snakes rarely spend special snake time with any of their hatch-lings, because there's simply too many of them.
Might just have to wait and see what he does when hes older.
