Hi,

I have a issue with my 8 month old olive python.
Last week he had an issue with his toungue and jaw. Long story cut short now the vet is unsure if his toungue is even still there(she is of the opinion he has swallowed it).
I am aware of all the functions of a snakes tounge and am willing to assist feed but would like to know if anyone has had any expierence with a similar situation and if so what the out come was like.
I look forward to hearing back from you and appreciate any advice you can give.

bugger sorry. I've never had this happen to me before. I hope your olive will be alright!

Nah I didn't get it amputated it was put back in last week by the vet but when he went back in for a check up yesterday she couldn't see the toungue at all so after a little investergating she found that if it was badly damaged it can actually fall off and thats what she thinks may have happened and he has digested it. yum oh

A local breeder near me has a 10year old olive that was born without a tongue and is assist fed once a fortnight. Its barely larger than the size of a yearling carpet but still kicking on.

thats so bizzare,..what was the problem to begin with?

Hope ur olive is ok.

I know of a case where a diamond python had it's tongue removed (by a vet) and is living life fine without it... of course it would have some trouble if it were a wild one, but defrosted rats arn't that hard to catch.
