Hi PhilK In you saying that snakes dont have much of a brain and what brain they do have you say they essentially cover eat, bask and mate, Well how come my Coastal can tell the difference bettween me and my partner he goes all over my partner and gives him Kisses and things but when it comes to me he doesnt want anything to do with me???
Kisses? Snakes don't give kisses. I do not know your snake or it's behaviour, and yes I have seen a snake change direction across a pool to swim to its owner so perhaps I oversimplified, but if you are trying to argue that they don't have small simple brains you haven't a leg to stand on I'm afraid.
Also my female only ever went into the log to rest and now that we have put artificial plants and vine into the encloser she has found her self more at home on the vine in the plants, so explain that??
Simple. She prefers that spot to the log for her needs - she doesn't think it is more fun, if that's what you mean.

Bellslace I will not quote your reply as it is too long.. once more I don't like the comparison between reptiles and mammals and birds, it's comparing apples to oranges and bananas and isn't the way to make a point but I do see what you're trying to get at.

Essentially if you are going to model your keeping techniques on nature you shouldn't keep snakes at all.. or if you do you should house them with parasites, live rodents and predators and should never feed black headed pythons anything but reptiles... where do you draw the line? If you are playing to your snakes 'emotions' (a need for heat etc) why not play to their other instincts like aggression and escaping from predators? I know I am being a bit silly here because obviously nobody will put an eagle in with their snake but the point remains.

Science has come a long way and I personally think we have made most of the "big" discoveries pertaining to animals intelligence; again this is probably a bit of a dumb statement because we are always learning more as you say, but nonetheless it is easy to see by looking at a brain the 'intelligence' of an animal and the snake brain is a tiny primitive thing, I can be certain we won't suddenly find out they're intelligent beings that need enrichment.

Do you wear perfume or any type of scented products by any chance?

Hi i have 2 coastals in this encloser when i first got it all it had was the root at the back a few rocks and the log down the bottom.. My snakes were not very active wen it was just these. Since putting in the vine at the top and the fake plants my snakes have been very active. View attachment 149922

soz to say this but put a cage on that light

Wow what a debate very good reading tho.
My little jungle is still a wee way off moving into her bigger enclosure but that will be total different to how my woma Is housed she will have all the logs and branches and vines. But a woma only uses the ground space of an enclosure and i'd rather him have room to move without having to get around a hole heap of fake plants I do have a hollow log and a hide also I have 2 fake cati in there which I believe is all he needs. I am yet to see a woma enclosure that has all these extra things

I love how APS threads start out about one subject and end up being about something else entirely........

Yes Misk does give kisses to my partner.
And with saying that they are not intellagent because they only have a tiny brain how do you explain the other animals out there with tiny brains like a mice that can find their way through a maze or an Ostrich that can round up other Ostriches (they are just an example)?? An Ostrich brain is the size of a pea but they still are an intellagent animal.

Hi i usually do but i just finished changing the light and took the pick before i put it back on. Thanks.

Once more, and sorry to be pedantic about this... snakes don't give kisses. They haven't got lips, for one thing.

You are comparing mammals and birds to reptiles - you can't do this. The mammalian and bird brains are far more advanced than the reptilian (in this instance the python). It doesn't become a matter of size, it becomes a matter of complexity. Yes mice and ostriches have small brains but they are far more complex and developed. There is no denying that I'm sorry. The very fact that this snake tries for hours to get out of a tiny gap should probably say something about their intelligence hahaha

my womas do that. I just take them out for a little cuddle and cruise, and put them back in and they're ok for a few minutes before they decide it was nice and want out again.

of course they will be, they can now get higher(heat rises) with the vines to warm up better then they will seek cooler areas to thermoregulate. Would be the same if u just had broom handles allowing access that high. My jungles seek the highest point of the enclosure till they are warm, then drop to the lower levels and their hide. As i was told when i bought my snakes keep it simple heat food water hides and if arboreal maybe a perch or 2

Yeh I'm currently setting up my jungles enclosure really starting to confuse myself with how to set it up

for my coastal i have a hide hot end and cold end and a skull under the heat emitter, branches fake vines and plants my coastal loves to sit up in the branch under the leaves, i also have a woma, setting up his enclosure in a few weeks, i have a log hide and a basking shelf which also doubles as a hide, i was only going to add some fake plants (cactus) and some other ones and a cow skull both to climb on and in and the same as bpb02 i wouldnt have thought to put in branches as he dosnet seem to beable to climb well since hes half fallen off my hand a couple times, but he will beable to climb the skull, basking shelf and his fake log just cant see him climbing branches.

you would be surprised at how well they can climb, i had mine in a small tree out the front and never missed a beat when climbing. Could be they can get a better grip on wood?

Haha I'll put a branch in my womas enclosure and see how he goes. When he was in his click clack I had 2 dowls in there and he just seemed to hang half his body over it never coiled on the perch

wasnt talking for your woma, you said you were setting up a jungle enclosure in post #32 and to driftoz for his coastal
