Hey guys, A friend has a beardies who currently has a respiratory infection.
They would like me to look after it.
Can respirtory infections be permenant, if so, what is the ongoing treatment it will need?
Also probably a silly question but is respiratory infections contagious on other beardies?

Hello

Hello,

Yes, respiratory infections are contagious to other bearded dragons. So care must be taken to not have any contact with other dragons.
It is not a permanent ailment but if it is severe, it needs to be treated with antibiotics such as Baytril or Fortaz. I am in the US so they may use other antibiotics but Baytril is mostly used here. If it is not treated it can go into pneumonia.
Make sure the humidity is under 30% also & that the temps in the tank are optimal as well. You will need to make sure she stays a little warmer at night too to help out her immune system.

I hope she feels better soon.
