What do you bed him on? I am sure the vet would have picked up anything but some are easily missed. Check the roof of his mouth thoroughly to make sure he has no foreign matter stuck to the roof of his mouth. If it covers his jacobs organ, his sense of smell is comprmised. My jungle girl went off her food for 8 weeks. It wasn't until I was taking photos of her that I snapped a picture of her open mouth and saw a lump in her mouth. Took her to vet who found breeders choice pellet wedged up and moulded to the roof of her mouth. Once we removed that, her appetite came back, and she been eating well, since. Might not be your problem, but just offering another thought for you to check for.

That is very good news. The lining of the mouth and tongue tube consists a mucous membrane that produces a continuous flow if watery mucous to keep it lubricated. Possibly the sheath or base of the tongue or were swollen as a result of the infection, stopping it from being used. In meantime the mucous inside the sheath has slowly built up and thickened but could not escape. That would explain the froth you are seeing.

Given it has just been through a traumatic experience, I would expect it to take a couple of weeks or so to get its confidence back and start to behave as normal.

Hey guys, So he snake has been on anti-biotic for about 6 weeks and while he is now showing his tongue and eating, he still has "froth" when he is flicking his tongue, maybe it's a slow process getting a python better from a RP? I've also realise he has mites, I am going to change his substrate to newspaper, give his tank a huge clean... I hate waiting :( I just want him all better now.

Gday Mate, I looked at the video and there are a few probs, which it sounds like you are now onto. The kitty litter substrate is no good, it is very dusty and will create more problems where powderlike dust and sticky mucous is concerned,
Put him on white butchers paper while you sort the mites out. The RI is the most important problem then the mites, so treat that first before any chemical mite spray. You can wipe him over daily with a cooking oil (almond, olive) to treat mites naturally while he recovers from the RI, Clean his newspaper daily, and wipe his tank out with water or oil at night. That keep them at bayuntil he gets his energy back. The tines of his tongue are there, just stuck with mucous and will come good. Burrowing and thermo regulating (moving on and off the basking site) is normal behaviour and a good sign. keep his temps up, keep him at 30 degrees 24/7.

Also very important... after you handle him, jump straight into the shower clothes and all. thoroughly soak your clothes to kill off any mite on you. Do not handle or work on him or his tank without doing this.
