We have a Central Bearded Dragon approx. 14 months old - have taken him to vet and will go again next week - problem is he has never pooped regularly and after a recent vet visit and being administered glycerin he pooped quite a large amount of smelly, runny, poop with a big hard white section approx. 1" long. I believe we have his temp right at 38-40 under the basking lamp and 25-30 at the cool end. He eats his gut-loaded, calcium dusted crickets (x 10) everyday, and regularly eats his greens but only after we have moved him which seems to wake him up. I think he is thin and a bit dehydrated so have been also misting his head regularly. I am trying really hard to help him and have read heaps of information and we seem to have everything right. He just won't poop regularly (goes about once every week or two) and isn't very active. He sometimes scratches at the glass which is a bit distressing. Please help.

Has he been checked for parasites??? that would be the first step.
He did have worms. The vet thought they were flukes. He has been treated twice and his last 2 poos over the past 1.5 weeks have not had any worms. I am about to feed Bow Tie so will keep this updated and hope to get some more replies.

Well that would do it, don't expect miracles, it's hard on Beardies to worm them at this time of year, the worming treatment will put them off colour for a few weeks, and the falling ambient temps will also start to cut their appetite down, the combination of both is often hard on them. It is always better to worm your BDs just after the breeding season, say late Jan / Feb, when the weather is hot and their willing and able to eat everything in site.

maybe try keep his heat on at night to so that he doesn't start to go into hiding and as jason sayed the treatment will turn them off colour for a while
Thanks so much. How about the irregular poo problem, which has been a problem since we bought him home at 6 months? I am wondering if I should dose with glycerin as instructed by the vet so that his stomach contents don't rot - I have read that a tummy massage and warm bath are also helpful. I am also worried about dehydration.

The poo problem may be associated with the parasite, get them under wraps and see how he goes.
Ok....we have had another poo today....last one was 6 days ago - there were about 4 dead little worms but thats all.....so hopefully we are getting on top of it. BowTie himself is also looking better today.....has changed from being quite dark in colour to a lovely orange today.....has been sitting under his heat lamp for some days now......gaping.....apparently that is a sign of the worms.....but he does look happier.....my middle child turned 5 today and BT has been at the glass watching the party with all the kids and the noise.......will keep you all posted....thanks so much........so glad I found this forum.....Happy Easter!
