I noticed this morning that one of my 12 month old darwins has passed some poo, however one piece looks normal but another seems to have a large amount of fur with a 2-3cm bit of undigested rat tail in it. The snake is still fully alert etc but i am a little concerned about the undigested part.

I plan on not feeding for another week or so just to see if he passes anything else.

Has anyone experienced this before, if so what came of the situation.

yer i have with corn lol
na never but ive only had my pyhtons for about 2 months

Mine sometimes poo out bits of bone, i'm not really sure what causes this but you will come across it a few times, though my boys are 7 feet long.

If your really concerned you can contact a reptile vet/someone experiences with reptiles.

Wish you all the best

As Australis has pointed out, heating is usually the issue. But also, how are your frozen rodents stored? If they aren't in sealed plastic bags they can get some form of frost bite on their legs and tail. These affected areas usually remain undigested when passed by the snake.

Something to think about.

Tails and bones and other hard, keratinous tissue is much more difficult to digest than muscle and fat. This might explain why there are intact bits and pieces on your snake's faecal matter. I used to find big chunks of fur in my snake's poo when I had her.
The same principal applies to "poo corn". Our digestive systems are terrible for breaking down cellulose as we don't have the gut bacteria required to do so. Cows and other ruminants are better at digesting corn and similar foods - they have the right bugs and the multiple stomachs!!

It's because of low temperatures, leave the animal for a fortnight and then feed it again.

Did it smell a bit?.

I'm sure there's a country (In europe I believe) that has this.
Might not be in all toilets or in Germany - but I'm sure they exist!

Settle down man.. i believe ya
Im sure its on some dodgey pay tv show "top-ten: toilets" ha.

Haha! Don't go knocking toilets now, they already put up with enough of your crap..

Talk about off topic! But a good laugh!

Just before it gets back on topic though, you need to ask yourself why do we bother eating it in the first place if it comes out the same way it went in? :)

Now back to the snake......
