Hey all,

My last clutch of bearded dragons hatched on new years eve. Many of the eggs died in incubation, I assume it was a dodgy last clutch, as they were kept at the same temps and conditions of the previous successful clutches. 9 survived in total, all with nice colours and eating well, I noticed there was one "runt" of the clutch, who was a bit smaller then the other dragons.

This morning I ran a bath for them, luke warm/cool and placed the 9 in there, they all drank at first, then ran around. I picked up the small one, as i noticed he twitched a bit, and then he started twitching heaps, and shaking, Like he was having a fit, he closed his eyes and opened his mouth, and just died. Not fun to watch.

Closer inspection and i saw that he was half way through making a poo, not sure if this has anything to do with it. I havent heard of this before. It looked like he was having a seziour. If any one has any ideas as to what could have happened, please let me know. Cheers.

So sorry to hear that Rocky, my first thought is that he some how got water in his lungs & drowned. I doubt the poo had anything to do with his death as he probably let his bowels go as he died.

Thanks, It was so weird, shaking so fast. Hope it wasn't something in the water.

If it was something in the water, Rocky, it would have effected the others as well. Very sorry to hear. It is really sad watching them die.

sounds like there was alot of presure on his spine whilst making a bowel movment, same reason why impaction and large prey can cause back leg paralysis. was there a super hard and large urate?

Spot on Kirby

The reason bearded dragons have such large and frequent clutches is that they are not all meant to survive..it is nothing you have done Rocky....yeah its sad when they die

i agree, this would explain the sudden convulsing & the fact that it happened after being in warm water

The feces was small, really tiny, didn't look like there was anything wrong with it. Cheers for the kind words! It sucks, he was my favorite. So tiny.

I really doubt that impaction could cause such a sudden death, surely there would be other symptoms if that was the case.
